Happy New Year! Have you recently adopted a kitten? If so, you’ll definitely be in for some super cute moments over the next 12 months. 2021 will be a very important time for your pint-sized pet. Kittens are almost too cute to handle. However, that adorable toddler phase won’t last long. Little Fluffy will grow very quickly in her first year! A proper diet is crucial to helping your furball through that adorable growth spurt. Ask your vet for specific advice.
Your tiny ball of fur will spend a good amount of time this year just sorting out how her claws are supposed to work. Now is the time to foster good habits! Get your furry friend a good scratching post, and give her treats, toys, and praise near it to encourage her to use it.
This one probably won’t be hard. While we’ve listed a few things you want to teach little Fluffy, she also has some training in store for you. Specifically, your furball will teach you to feed, pet, and play with her on demand, and to act as kitty furniture when she wants to cuddle.
Cats are very curious, and they like to investigate–and play with–absolutely everything in their domains. That sense of adventure can get a frisky kitten into big trouble! Make sure that your home is safe for little Fluffy by doing some petproofing. Ask your vet for advice.
That first year is a crucial time for pets! Little Fluffy will need to come in a few times in 2021. In addition to those initial exams and vaccines, your tiny feline will need microchipping, spay/neuter surgery. She’ll also need to get started on dental care. Ask your vet to recommend an appointment schedule.
Our feline friends are collectively very, very tired. In fact, little Fluffy can sleep up to 20 hours a day. (Cats’ growth hormones are released during sleep, so kittens do have an excuse.) Make sure your drowsy pet has lots of comfy spots to curl up in.
