Are you looking for a pet that’s a little bit different? If so, a reptile may be a great choice for you! While these guys may not be for everyone, they do have some unique qualities and benefits. A local Greater Cincinnati vet lists some of the advantages of having a reptile below.
Some of our animal companions are quite noisy! Fido has definitely garnered some complaints with his barking. Birds can be almost ear-splittingly loud. Reptiles, however, make little or no noise at all. This makes them a great fit for anyone with close neighbors.
We love our canine companions, but we have to admit they can get a bit stinky. This is another good thing about reptiles. As long as you keep your pet’s habitat clean, you won’t have to worry about bad smells.
Our scaled pals won’t fill your home with fur or dander. While they do shed, this doesn’t happen constantly and their skins are quite easy to dispose of. This makes them a great choice for anyone with allergies.
Dogs, as we all know, need quite a bit of training to hit ‘Good boy’ status. (Cats usually train their humans, but that’s a whole other topic.) With a reptile, you won’t have to worry about your animal companions’ petucation.
Reptile enclosures can actually be quite attractive, especially if you add pretty plants and rocks. Your pet’s tank may very well become a great centerpiece!
Reptiles are actually quite easy keepers. You’ll need to deep clean your pet’s habitat regularly. However, many of them don’t even eat every day. Your everyday chores may be very quick and easy: just give your pet fresh water, and remove any waste.
While some reptiles are more charismatic than others are, they all do have some sort of personality. Bearded dragons, geckos, and iguanas have all garnered themselves some raving fans. And, while your scaled companion may not exactly greet you with a happy dance, they may enjoy hanging out on you while you are relaxing or watching TV.
Last but not least, reptiles are really fascinating to watch. Some of them are also really cute!
